Duplex Longa - Forças Ocultas (1992)

Unfortunately, "Forças Ocultas" was the only album by the portuguese avant-garde group Duplex Longa, formed in 1987 by Mário Resende (violin, drum machine, flutes, tapes, computer, electronics) and Carlos Raimundo (bass, drum machine, tapes, samplers, electronics).
This record has inumerous collaborations, including singer Anabela Duarte (Mler ife Dada) and the jazz musician Rodrigo Amado on the saxophone.

Two great records by the portuguese avant-garde group Telectu, founded in 1982 by Jorge Lima Barreto and Vítor Rua.
"Ctu Telectu" was the group's debut album and, undoubtedly, a landmark in the portuguese avant music scene of the early 80's.
"Biombos" is a combination of live and studio recordings made in 1992, between Beijing, Macau and Hong Kong.

The Virgin Prunes were formed in 1977 (Dublin, Ireland) by Gavin Friday, Guggi, Dave-id, Pod, Strongman and Dik. They ended in 1986 after Gavin Friday's departure.
These are their most significant studio records - "...If I Die, I Die" being my favourite one.

Here's two interesting tributes to monsieur Serge Gainsbourg. The Nippon Columbia's "Gainsbourg Tribute '95" and one issue of Tzadik's "Great Jewish Music" series dedicated to the man.
While the 1st one joined collaborations of Malcolm Mclaren, Kahimi Karie, Laila France and Cornelius (among others), the 2nd one was made by classic Tzadik icons such as John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Mike Patton, David Shea, Fred Frith, Ikue Mori, Kramer, and so on...

Blaine L. Reininger - Instrumentals (1987)

An incredibly beautiful record with collaborations of The Durutti Column, Wim Mertens and Reininger's bandmates from Tuxedomoon.

Guillermo E. Brown - Soul at the Hands of the Machine (2002)

Gaining a lot more visibility due to his drumming work in the David S. Ware quartet, Brown's music goes far beyond jazz frontiers.
This 1st solo record was released by the avant-garde Norwalk label Thirsty Ear. Enjoy!

In 2001, MOTW released a unique masterpiece divided in two records and I still can't decide wich one I love the most!
Their sound was a mixture of metal, prog rock, jazz, post-rock or what more else you might recall. Shortly after this release, they've lost some of their core members and Toby Driver (the mind behind it all) renamed the band to Kayo Dot, wich made some releases for John Zorn's Tzadik and for other labels as well.
It has been said that MOTW will reunite this year to record a new album.
We'll just have to wait and see.

David Shea - Satyricon (1997)

This is David Shea's major masterpiece.
"Satyricon" is one of the highlights of the New York experimental scene, with the contribution of "partners in crime" Anthony Coleman, Zeena Parkins and Tiziana Kutic, among others.

With a few extra tracks, this is the 2004 remastered version of the 1987 release from one of Tuxedomoon's mainmen.

Multi-instrumentalist Nuno Rebelo is a former member of the portuguese avant-pop groups Mler ife Dada and Street Kids.
This record contains two commissioned stage works: "Sábado 2" and "Minimal Show".

Marc Ribot - Soundtracks II (2003)

Avant-garde wizard Marc Ribot, who is credited here for the guitars, trumpet, horn, sequencer, loops and sampler, gathered what we may call "the usual suspects" to record this second volume of film music. One more item from the John Zorn's Tzadik catalogue.

Denison/Kimball Trio - Soul Machine (1995)

Ex-Jesus Lizard members Duane Denison and Jim Kimball began releasing records as Denison/Kimball Trio in 1994. "Soul Machine" is their second album and my favourite one.
