90s Indie Mix Vol. 1

Hi to all!
It seems I'm back, after a real rollercoaster of good and bad things in my life. 
Times have change, internet has changed, blogs have change and, as a consequence of this, so does the format of my posts here on mUsistenZ. 
Nowadays I'll just be sharing some of my sets of mixed music that I'm uploading on my Mixcloud account. 
I'm starting with some indie pop tunes from the 90's, but I'll be mixing all sorts of music as I was usuallly doing here in the past.

Trembling Blue Stars - It's Easier to Smile [Slow Soft Sighs] (2002)

It's been a while since I've heard this for the first time.
An amazing tune that goes very well with the summer season.
This track was originally released as a part of the CD single «Slow Soft Sighs» and it was later included in the compilation «A Certain Evening Light».

The Besnard Lakes - People of the Sticks [Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO] (2013)

Excellent indie/dream pop track by these Montreal fellows.
The album will be released next month.

Fans of Robin Guthrie will love this, I guess.

Snowman - Absence (2011)
What an outstanding and amazingly beautiful album by this australian band that, unfortunately, is no more. "Absence" was recorded before Snowman's demise and it was put out on the market afterwards.
Don't miss it for anything!

Been revisiting these two records a lot on my iPod, especially "Continental", my favourite one.
It's a little unfair to choose one specific track from the album, but if I had to do it, I'd choose "Monument". So much powerfulness in such a short piece of time.

Dead by Request - Fotheringay (Fairport Convention Cover)

A close friend of mine made his debut on YouTube with this kind of a "videoclip" to his cover version of Fairport Convention's "Fotheringay".
I'm sharing it so you can listen and comment it.

Brendan Perry - Live at Brussels Botanique Orangerie, 20th March 2010 (2010)
Last March 15th, a monday night, I had the privilege to witness one of the most magnificent concerts in years - Brendan Perry was in Portugal for the 1st time!
My post isn't about that particular magical moment I presenced in Braga.
In fact, this post is about a gig in Brussels, only five days later, that someone had the kindness to share on the net.
The sound quality is superb, it was directly recorded from the sound mixer.
As on his portuguese shows, Brendan played a lot of outstanding new material, which will be part of his new album "Ark" (to be released in June), along with some classic Dead Can Dance stuff.
Don't miss it for anything!

Khonnor - Handwriting (2004)

Khonnor is one of the aliases for Connor Kirby-Long, an american musician from Vermont, who works under many other names such as Grandma, I Cactus or Gaza Faggot.
"Handwriting" was his debut album.
An amazing and beautiful record, combining ambient and dream pop elements, remniscents of some of the best soundscapes produced by such well known names as Fennesz, Ulrich Schnauss, Slowdive or My Bloody Valentine.

Dreamlike digitally manipulated guitar noise and wavering synths form the foundation for most of the tracks, complimented by Khonnor’s frank and open lyrics throughout, breathing life into his tracks with an ease and unforgettable beauty as he charts the ups and downs of teenage love, pocket change and lost hazy nights. Trespassers William - Different Stars (2003)
Here's a very interesting record from this south californian band, originally released in the UK by the label Bella Union of Simon Raymonde (ex-Cocteau Twins).
It will certainly appeal to fans of Mazzy Star, Elysian Fields or Maria Taylor.

All About Eve - Ultraviolet (1992)

After a brief passage as a bassist of Gene Loves Jezebel, in the early 80's, Julianne Regan left the group to form her own band. The final result was All About Eve and these are my favourite two records of them.
